CEDAR PLANK FLAT BREAD PIZZA
1 or 2 cedar planks (soak in water for 3-4 hours) Sliced black olives
Sliced mushrooms
Diced Sweet Banana Peppers
2 Sweet Italian Sausage
1/2 Sweet onion (diced)
Shredded Pizza Cheese (mozzarella, provolone, parmesan, Romano) Basil (chopped)
Marinara Sauce
Pizza Dough (pre mix or home made)
Preheat the Big Green Egg to 400 degrees. Use a plate setter (conveggtor) feet up with the cooking grid on top.
The Italian sausage usually comes in links. Just slice open and brown the sausage along with the onion in a black cast iron skillet on your kitchen stove.
After your dough has risen, place it on a piece of oiled aluminum foil.
Place the cedar plank next to the dough and use it as a guide to form your pizza crust. Place the formed crust and foil onto your preheated grill and toast the formed crust for 7-8 minutes on top of the foil. Remove once toasted. Spray cooking oil onto the Cedar Plank. Place the toasted side of the crust down onto the oiled Cedar Plank.
Start with the Marinara Sauce by spreading a liberal amount over the crust. Next add the meat and onions. Add the remaining ingredients if you so wish. Top with cheese and then the Basil.
Place the plank onto the Big Green Egg and cook for 15 minutes.
You can work out your time line for prepping and toasting the dough for the second pizza. Toast a crust while you place toppings on the first. You can easily cook 2 or 3 pizzas on each cedar plank.
Slice across the cedar plank into individual serving slices. This makes a great presentation appetizer for special guests! Enjoy with a glass of Chianti.
